Cross It Off The List

In some of my previous blogs, I’ve talked about why 2016 was a special year to me. There were a handful of milestones I reached & I felt it was only right to go big for this year ahead: 2017.

Set the bar high. That is the motto for the next 12 months & there is not a chance I’m going to let myself live life any other way. When you set the bar high, you hold yourself accountable for the actions you make. By the time 2018 rings in, I want to be able to look at the list from this previous year and know that even if I can’t cross off every item, I put it all on the line. The other side of the coin is that if you’re able to cross off every item on the list… then you simply didn’t aim high enough.

The List

  1. Move to California: From a young age, I’ve always wanted to move out there & the time to do it is now. I’m a recent college graduate with no strings attached, except for Sallie Mae of course. Once my lease in Boston is up on September 1st, I’m shipping west to Los Angeles with a team of people. It’ll be different, especially being a MA native all my life, but what do I have to lose?

  2. Increase Podcast Reach: 500 listeners on soundcloud with over 50,000 plays isn’t going to be easy, but it will force me to work like a madman. In just the first four months, I was able to reach 109 followers & over 7,000 plays. With the right strategy for the coming months, there is no question I can’t hit this goal. Hustle is the name of the game.

  3. Tour Manage Three Tours: In 2016 I had the opportunity to travel on the road and tour manage three separate tours. Two of which were with Dylan Reese & the other was with TJ Hickey. This goal isn’t about landing the highest possible quantity of tours, rather I am striving to increase the quality of them. I want to get on the road with artists and people with whom I can build strong relationships. I have the experience & understanding of the Tour Manager position, but now it's about finding the right opportunities in the coming year.

  4. Travel to Europe: Aside from moving to California, this is my next major item I want to check off the list. What amazes me is how enormous this world is & how little of it many of us will see for one reason or another. I want to see as much of Europe as I possibly can in 2017. If I can leverage my network and find a way to tour manage something out there, why not kill two birds with one stone?

  5. Save $25,000: At first, I was debating if I was going to share this actual number with you all, for a variety of different reasons. However, I realized if I want to be authentic, the details matter. This is a big number in my life but it’s something I’m going to constantly remember & see everyday. My plan to get this type of mula saved isn’t perfectly laid out just yet, but is life always laid out? No. Smart decisions along the way will get me there just like anything else will.

  6. Help One Person a Week: I launched the podcast with one central goal: to help people realize that whatever they dream to become or do with their life, it is all possible. Furthermore, along with the podcast, I want to help someone once a week. Whether its getting on the phone with them to brainstorm ways to execute their dreams & desires, or giving my opinion on a certain subject. Whatever the case is, I want to help someone in anyway that I possibly can within reason. If there is something I can do for you today, send me an e-mail:

  7. Build a Stronger Brand on Social Media: To me the numbers don’t matter. Yeah, it would be cool to have 100k followers on Instagram, but am I going to die if I don’t? Hopefully not. With that said, I still want to increase my influence, which will be an indicator of how well I am doing my job with the podcast as well as building my personal brand. My goal is 2,000 followers on Instagram, 1,500 followers on Twitter & 500 views on Snap Stories. The name of the game is simple: content, content & more content. Posting as much as possible while making sure that the content is of quality and has meaning will maximize the strength of my brand throughout 2017.

These goals are just the big picture items. The tricky part is reverse engineering how exactly I’m going to achieve these goals over the next couple months. Believe me; it will be a lot of trial & error. What I think will work now, might not work in two months. I look it as a game & just adjust along the way.

Take the time today & write out your own goals. Save it on your phone, post a sticky note on your bedroom door, and even put it on the dashboard of your car. Remind yourself throughout the day of what these goals are & you will make the right small decisions everyday to get you to these big ideas crossed off.
