Back for his second appearance on the podcast, Deon Rose was the guest for episode 6 where he discussed his early childhood, battling mouth cancer and attending college. After graduating he began working with JetBlue which has allowed him to travel to places like Bali, Italy, Rome, Australia, Japan and more in just the past year. When entering a new country he has an idea of what he would like to do but he is never afraid to ask locals questions on where to go or what he should eat.
Most of his travel is done alone and he has never had a bad experience. It can be a little scary sometimes but once he puts himself into the environment he’s able to figure it out. He shakes everyone’s hand the same way no matter who they’re or how much money they make because he knows that’s how he would like to be treated. What he enjoys the most about traveling is that he’s able to gain perspective on how other people live in different parts of the world.
One of his big bucket list items was to visit every continent before the age of 25 and at 24 he’s practically done it without having visited Antarctica. As he documents his life through pictures, blog posts, videos or podcasts he wants people to take away nothing but good energy and hopes that it may inspire them to do what they love.
In this episode Deon discusses: stay zoned in on what we can control, we have to take care of ourselves before we worry about anyone else, discipline, love, self-awareness and gratitude are important in day-to-day life, finding true value in our job or career aside from making money, balancing how much time we spend on social media and being cautious of what we’re consuming, trying to make everyday productive by learning something new and writing down our bucket list items and crossing them off one at a time.
One of the main takeaways from this episode is cross off items on your personal bucket list one item at a time. Having these clear goals will serve as a reminder each day of what we're aiming for and it will motivate us to keep pushing forward. Hang them on in your bedroom and read them every morning and every night before you go to sleep.
