A popular question I get nowadays is how do you find your guests? In the beginning I started with the people around me who I thought were very passionate people and as time went I started getting leads from friends and family on other possible guests. This weeks guest, Kimberly Russell, was brought to my attention from a friend of mine who happens to be a podcast listener. I’m glad I looked into this lead because she has quite the story to tell.

Kimberly Russell grew up in Charlestown, MA where she watched her father work two jobs and one of the first lessons he taught her was that if you worked hard you could accomplish anything in life. What was one of the biggest struggles during her childhood was watching her older brother battle the awful and terrible heroin addiction that so many are affected by. Fortunately for their family he was able to kick it, turn his life around and now helps other recovering addicts.

When it came time for college, Kimberly lasted two years before giving up as she hated it. Instead, she enrolled in Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics for beauty school and felt much more at ease. What was supposed to be only a one year program got stretched to two after she had to take of leave of absence to deal with depression, generalized anxiety, social anxiety and panic disorders. For her this was a blessing. A wake up call that so many other people in this world battle their own issues and instead of feeling sorry for herself she kicked it to the side and rose high confident in who she was. Makeup became an outlet for her to express her emotions and what was the beginning of her now career.

After launching her website earlier this year she got tremendous positive feedback from people that were watching what she was doing and she continued to build her business from the ground up. For her it has nothing to do with the money but more so seeing the smile on her clients faces as she assists them on some of the most important days of their life.

I think one of the main takeaways from this episode is so fill your heart with what’s important and be done with the rest. As we get older and mature, we begin to realize how little time we actually have on this earth and need to make the best of it. With that being said, no time can be wasted around people that do not bring good energy around or who question what we’’re doing. We must find what we love, who we love and continue to fill our world with only those things.
